The museum-reserve presents to guests "Ten centuries of Novgorod writing" on a memorable day

Next Monday, the country will celebrate the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture . The presentation of a special publication, authored by researchers from the Novgorod State United Museum-Reserve, is timed to coincide with this event in Veliky Novgorod. The popular science collective work “Ten Centuries of Novgorod Literature” will tell about different types of written monuments – from graffiti of ancient temples to monuments of Novgorod literature.
The presentation will take place on May 26 at 16:00 in the Museum of Writing (Likhudov Building, Kremlin, 13). The new edition of the Novgorod Museum-Reserve tells about the centuries-old development of writing and book culture of the Novgorod land, Ancient Rus and Russia of the New Time. In total, the book has 12 chapters, which cover the period from the 11th to the 20th century.
"Using the Novgorod Museum collections as an example, the authors tell about birch bark letters, the origins of Novgorod book culture, the history of Russian book printing, the art of book decoration, and various monuments of Novgorod literature. Separate essays are devoted to the oldest of the found Russian books - the Novgorod Psalter, ancient Russian libraries, the history of education in Veliky Novgorod, inscriptions on coins and seals," NGOMZ specialists reveal the details.
The publication itself is written in accessible language and is intended for a wide range of readers interested in the history of Russian writing and culture. The authors of the publication are museum employees A. V. Astafyev, I. A. Melnikov, G. S. Polyakova. The book was reviewed by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Philology A. A. Gippius , which ensured a high scientific level for the publication.
Among other things, the book contains numerous images of monuments from the Novgorod Museum collection. Some of the illustrations are published for the first time. The design project and layout of the book were created thanks to cooperation with the company "Visual Communication Technologies", which made an important contribution to the colorfulness and fascination of the presentation of the material. At the presentation, you will be able not only to get acquainted with the publication, but also to talk to the authors.
